The island and volcano of Stromboli, southern Italy, seen from the aft upper promenade deck of the Orient Line cruise ship Orford (1928). The volcano is smoking. The photographer is on the starboard side of the ship looking across the deck to port and slightly aft with the large motor lifeboat number 18 in its davits on the right. The port aft samson post and 5 ton SWL derrick are also on the right. Affixed to the base of the mainmast is a small notice reading "Saturday 7 a.m. 64°".
