Irish Curragh

Recreation vessel, Dingle racing curragh. This curragh was purposely built with a light weight construction to be used for racing. The lightweight lathe framework, wooden thwarts and wooden gunwale are covered with a stitched canvas skin which is waterproofed with a coating of Stockholm tar/pitch. It is rowed by six pairs of oars over wooden thole pins, the blades of which are very long and narrow and are designed to be used off the beaches of the Irish coast. This boat is also fitted with a small well aft for the operation of small outboard motor. The oars are numbered in Roman numerals and the floors are painted with decorative designs.
