A commercial street in Hammerfest, Norway.

A street scene in Hammerfest, Norway. The photographer is looking along a shopping street which has a church at the far end. The three storey premises in the foreground have signs advertising an exhibition (Zur-Austellung) and the ground floor shop is advertising margarine and tobacco. All of the buildings are of wooden construction. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
