The harbour at Hammerfest, Norway, with the passenger cruise ship Franconia (1923).
The harbour at Hammerfest, Norway. The photographer is looking west-north-west from a hill above the town showing motor fishing vessels berthed in the inner harbour next to warehouses. The passenger cruise ship Franconia (1923), seen from fine off her starboard quarter, has stern lines to the shore and she is in all white livery. A cargo ship is at anchor on the right and three children are on the hill in the foreground. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
