The harbour at Hammerfest, Norway.

Motor fishing vessels in the harbour at Hammerfest, Norway. One of the boats is identified by the registration F.71.S. A Canadian Pacific Steamships motor lifeboat is under way full of passengers in the right foreground. The quayside is lined with wooden buildings and one of them is the premises of Gabrielsen and Traelast. The town is backed by the Sadlen and on the top of the Sadlen are a lookout tower and a signal station. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
