The main part of the town at Hammerfest, Norway.
The main part of the town and part of the harbour at Hammerfest, Norway, looking west from the slopes at the north end of the Sadlen. A coastal passenger/cargo steamship, a small cargo coaster and a few motor fishing vessels are in the harbour. St Michael's Church is in the foreground and the Parish Church is near the water's edge on the right. Two of the harbourside warehouses have Feddersen & Nissen on them and one of the shops is the premises of Herreekviperingen. The island of Sörö is in the background. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
