The east side of the harbour at Hammerfest, Norway.

The east side of the harbour at Hammerfest, Norway, looking south-east-by-south from the north shore. A few small boats are at moorings or drawn up on the foreshore. Fishing nets and a large timber rack of split fish are on the quayside drying out. The warehouses fronting the harbour and all of the houses are timber-built. The Sadlen is in the right background and a lookout tower is on the top of it. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
