The main part of the town at Hammerfest, Norway.

The main part of the town and part of the harbour at Hammerfest, Norway, looking north-west from the upper slopes of the Sadlen. Three small children are on the grass in the left foreground. The Parish Church is near the water's edge on the right. The island of Sörö is in the background. The forepart of the passenger cruise liner Carinthia (1925) can be seen in the distance on the left edge. The ship has a black hull. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
