The harbour at Hammerfest, Norway.
The harbour at Hammerfest, Norway. The photographer is looking south-by-east from on board a passenger cruise ship moored stern-on to the quay showing a number of motor fishing vessels in the harbour. Two motor lifeboats from the cruise ship are alongside the landing steps in the foreground. One of the warehouses fronting the harbour has the following wording on it: M. Gabrielsen Bygnings Artikler, Traelast. The Sadlen is in the background and on its summit are a lookout tower and a signal station being rebuilt. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived. A vertical format negative.
