The main part of the town at Hammerfest, Norway.

The main part of the town at Hammerfest, Norway, looking west-by-north from the upper slopes of the Sadlen. In the right foreground is the shop of Herreekviperingen and the Parish Church is near the water's edge on the right. In the centre of the town is a telegraph pole with over one hundred insulators on it in thirteen rows of eight. The passenger cruise liner Carinthia (1925), seen from just ahead of the starboard beam, is in the distance and she has a black hull. The island of Sörö is in the background. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
