The harbour and the eastern side of the town at Hammerfest, Norway. The photographer is looking north-by-west from the top of the Sadlen showing two coastal passenger/cargo steamships alongside the quays. In the left foreground is the warehouse of M. Gabrielsen and St. Michael's Church is on the right with the residential district of Molla beyond it. All of the buildings are of timber construction. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
