The harbour and the east side of the town at Hammerfest, Norway.

The harbour and the east side of the town at Hammerfest, Norway. The photographer is looking east-by-north across the almost empty harbour from the passenger cruise liner landing steps. A small motor vessel and a few motor fishing vessels are at moorings in the harbour. St. Michael's Church is on the right and the Sadlen is in the background. All of the buildings are of timber construction. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
