The midnight sun over the harbour and the east side of the town at Hammerfest, Norway.
The midnight sun over the harbour and the east side of the town at Hammerfest, Norway. The photographer is looking north-by-west from near the top of the Sadlen. The harbour is almost empty and a new building is being erected on the east quay. All of the buildings are constructed of wood. The sun is just shining over the top of the northern mountains of Klavo. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
