The east side of the town at Hammerfest, Norway.

The east side of the town at Hammerfest, Norway. The photographer is looking north-by-west from the zig-zag footpath up the north end of the Sadlen. A coastal passenger/cargo steamer is alongside the east quay. The steeple of St. Michael's Church is to the left of centre and a reindeer is on the road in the left foreground. All of the buildings are constructed of wood. The northern mountains of Klavo are in the background. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
