The anchorage and town at Hammerfest, Norway.

The anchorage and town at Hammerfest, Norway. The photographer is looking west-south-west from the eastern foreshore showing the western end of the town with warehouses fronting the harbour. The steeple of the Parish Church is prominent. In the left background is the Sadlen. At anchor and seen from off her starboard beam is the passenger cruise liner Kungsholm (1928) in white livery. On the extreme right of the picture is the passenger cruise liner Monte Rosa (1930). Small boats are drawn up on the beach in the foreground. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
