The town at Hammerfest, Norway. The photographer is looking south-east, to port and aft from on board an unidentified passenger cruise ship in the anchorage showing the town with warehouses fronting the harbour. The Parish Church is prominent near the lifeboat davit. In the right background is the Sadlen. The ship's mainmast, equipped with 5 ton derricks, and her cargo winches are in the foreground. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
