A fish drying jetty and the coaling jetty on the north side of the harbour at Hammerfest, Norway. The photographer is looking south-west from the north shore of the harbour showing split fish drying on timber racks on a wooden piled pier. Fishing nets are also hanging up to dry. The dried fish are called clip. The coaling jetty with its travelling crane on a raised track is in the background and beyond it is the anchored Swedish passenger cruise ship Kungsholm (1928) in all white livery. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the piers or buildings in this photograph survived.
