The passenger cruise ships Franconia (1923) and Montrose (1922) in Hammerfest harbour, Norway. The photographer is on the lower slopes of the Sadlen looking west showing a large number of motor fishing vessels, including ones registered T-31-A, M-5-V, M-11-KD, T-3-T, ST-32-O and F-1-H Two of the warehouse fronting the harbour are occupied by Feddersen & Nissen. On the right and seen from abaft her starboard beam is the Franconia (1923) and in the centre, seen from off her port beam, is the Montrose (1922), which made cruises to Norway in 1936 and in 1938. A general cargo steamship is alongside the coaling jetty in the left background. The buildings are all of wooden construction. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
