The harbour at Hammerfest, Norway, and the passenger cruise ship Montrose (1922).

The harbour at Hammerfest, Norway. The photographer is looking west from the harbourside showing wooden lighters and motor fishing vessels, including ones registered N-139-BO, N-38-HM and F-1-H. In the centre is a building on a wooden piled pier with Nissen Bunkers Salt on it. At anchor in the harbour is the Canadian Pacific Steamships passenger cruise ship Montrose (1922), seen from ahead of her port beam, which cruised in Norwegian waters in 1936 and 1938. All of the buildings are of wooden construction. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
