A small waterside settlement near Hammerfest, Norway.
A small waterside settlement near Hammerfest, Norway. A cluster of wooden buildings are on the shore of a water feature and they are approached by a rough cart track which has post and wire fencing on either side of it. Two people are tending a horse by washing lines and chickens are in the field next to a single storey house. A two storey house is next to the water's edge. A few other buildings are further round the shore of the water. The town of Hammerfest and all buildings in the Finnmark region were totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
