Racks of split fish hanging up to dry on wires strung between timber frames on the north shore of the harbour at Hammerfest, Norway. The dried fish are called clip. A few buildings are in the background at the foot of the northern mountains of Klavo. All of the buildings are of wooden construction. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
