A street scene at Hammerfest, Norway.

A street scene in Hammerfest, Norway. The photographer is looking north-east showing a number of locals and tourists and a horse-drawn cart. The nearest building on the left is occupied by O. Thorsen. On the right is Chr. Larsen's shop with a clock reading 8.23, a sign for Petterøe's Tobakk, a clothing shop run by S. Henriksen and a kiosk near St. Michael's Church. The northern mountains of Klavo are in the background. All of the buildings are of wooden construction. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
