The photographer is looking east-by-south from on board a ship in the Canal de Entrada (harbour entrance channel) showing a long quay and three 2-masted schooners at moorings in the harbour. On the quay are a large number of boat-shaped objects constructed of timber slats and seven of these objects are afloat in the harbour near the bow moorings of the schooners.
