Looking down on two sampans in Victoria harbour, Hong Kong. The closest sampan has the traditional covered accommodation aft. The outboard boat has a substantial wooden cabin taking up two-thirds of the length of the boat with an open well forward. A large number of bamboo bird cages are on the outboard boat, supposedly containing canaries but some of them contain parrots.
