Ship Cover for HMS Temeraire (1876)

Ship Cover relating to the central battery/barbette ironclad HMS Temeraire (1876). The documentation mainly deals with the design phase of the ship commencing in February 1872, continuing up to her conversion to a depot ship Indus II in March 1904. Subjects dealt with include the proposal documents for the design, statements of specification, dimensions and weights, details of sail area, masting and rig arrangements (in comparison with contemporary British warships of similar size), gun and torpedo armament and allocated ammunition, armour density and arrangement, vessel stability, coal endurance, crew complement and general fittings such as anchors. Subsequent documents contain reports of her sailing and gunnery trials, and alterations carried out during her commission.
