Ship Cover for composite gunvessels of the Arab, Condor and Algerine classes. Vessels specifically represented are HMS Algerine (1880), HMS Arab (1874), HMS Condor (1876), HMS Falcon (1877), HMS Flamingo (1876), HMS Griffon (1876), HMS Lily (1874), HMS Rambler (1880) and HMS Ranger (1880). The documentation mainly deals with data pertaining to the specifications, weights, dimensions, allocated crew complement and stability calculations for the three classes. Additionally, there are design proposal papers and armament allocation tables for the Arab and Condor classes; and ammunition allotment details for the Arab and Algerine classes; and details of the masts and yards of the Algerines. The date range for the Arab class documents is from March 1873 when the vessels were ordered to October 1887, two years before Arab was sold and Lily wrecked. The date range for the Condor class is from December 1873 during the early design stages to February 1910 when the surviving vessels were serving in secondary roles. The date range for the Algerine class is from February 1877 during the early design stages to November 1894 when the last remaining member of the class [Rambler] was serving as a survey vessel.
