Ship Cover for HMS Inflexible (1876).

Ships Cover for the masted turret ship HMS Inflexible (1876). The documentation in this Cover continues from that held in Cover 74. There is a fair amount of paperwork devoted to stability calculations, continuing the issues raised previously between Reed and Barnaby. Additionally, there is an inspection report from 1880 when the ship was nearing completion, modifications made to the rudder and some correspondence on the installation of the 80 ton guns. The remainder of the Cover is devoted to paperwork generated following the ship's completion, including a report to Parliament of the ship's completion and fitting costs, steaming and gunnery trials carried out in 1881 and 1882, comparisons with the Italian turret ship Duilio (1876), and a commentary on the tactical efficacy [or lack of] of the Whitehead torpedoes carried by the ship.
