Ships Cover for the Satellite class composite screw sloops [later rerated as corvettes circa 1884] HMS Caroline (1882), HMS Heroine (1881), HMS Hyacinth (1881), HMS Pylades (1884), HMS Rapid (1883), HMS Royalist (1883) and HMS Satellite (1881). The general items of documentation cover the early design proposals and suggested specifications for the ships, progressive statements of dimensions and weights, allocated armament, tabular results of full power steam trials and assigned crew complement. More focused papers include details of anchors allocated to Heroine, Hyacinth and Satellite and stability calculations for Heroine, Pylades and Satellite. The date range of the documents commences in February 1880 -shortly before the first keels were laid- to November 1913, by which time the three extant members of the class (Caroline, Rapid and Royalist) had been reduced to harbour duty.
