Ships Cover for the Dolphin and Mariner class composite screw sloops HMS Acorn (1884), HMS Dolphin (1882), HMS Icarus (1885), HMS Mariner (1884), HMS Melita (1888), HMS Racer (1884), HMS Reindeer (1883) and HMS Wanderer (1883). The documentation mainly relates to the early design process [including a design history document for the Mariner class), statements of dimensions and weights, stability, proposed and final armaments, allocated ammunition, crew complement and mast and yard arrangements. In terms of documents relating to the ships' later careers, most attention is devoted to details of Melita's conversion to a boom defence ship [effected 1905]. In terms of date range, the earliest papers begin in February 1881 shortly before the Dolphin class were begun and the documentation ends in June 1908, by which time none of the class were in frontline service.
