Ship Cover for HMS Anson (1886), HMS Camperdown (1885), HMS Howe (1885) and HMS Rodney (1884).

Ship Cover for the Admiral class barbette battleships HMS Anson (1886), HMS Camperdown (1885), HMS Howe (1885) and HMS Rodney (1884). The documentation mainly relates to statements and estimates of dimensions and weights [most of the data being devoted to Howe and Rodney], a detailed tender from W. G. Armstrong & Mitchell for the design, mounting, loading and operating arrangements for the 13.5" main gun armament, stability calculations, allocated stores and fittings [including boats and anchors], schemes of crew complement for Camperdown, Howe and Rodney, and a statement of Rodney's armament as completed. Later papers refer to proposed modifications, particularly upgrading of the torpedo net defence. Much of this later material refers to mishaps suffered by Howe, including the parting of her steering gear pitch chain in September 1889 and salvage operations following her going aground at Ferrol in 1892. A detailed steaming and manoeuvreing trials diagram for this ship from 1895 is also present. The earliest documents date from November 1882, some months after Rodney's keel was laid, while the latest are from July 1904 when all four were in Fleet Reserve.
