Ships Cover for HM TBs 4-87 (1879-1889) and Royal Indian Marine TBs [later TBs 100-106 (1887-1889).

Ships Cover relating to the First Class Torpedo Boats 4-87 and the Royal Indian Marine boats [later TBs 100-106], launched between 1879 and 1889. There is additional paperwork relating to a Yarrow-built TB, but it is not clear which vessel this is as the details and dimensions given are close to TB 104-106, all of which were White-built. This Cover overlaps and continues Cover 65. The documentation is quite eclectic in terms of subjects covered and there is considerable variation in the density of paperwork pertaining to individual boats. Overall, the main items dealt with are trials reports, general correspondence, statements of specifications, weights and dimensions, particulars of the Thornycroft, White and Yarrow boats, comparisons with Brazilian (1891) and Norwegian (1903) craft, and stability calculations. Beyond the documents relating to design and initial construction /fitting out, material also exists for alterations made later, particularly re-boilering work. Two documents, one dated August 1902 and another August 1907 provide condition/current status reports for all British TBs still in existence at those dates. The overall date range of the papers is quite broad, ranging from August 1886 to August 1908.
