Ships Cover for HMS Bramble (1886), HMS Lizard (1886), HMS Rattler (1886) and HMS Wasp (1886).

Ships Cover for the Bramble class composite gunboats HMS Bramble (1886), HMS Lizard (1886), HMS Rattler (1886) and HMS Wasp (1886). The documentation mainly relates to the initial design proposals and discussions, armament to be carried, statements of dimensions and weights, tables of masts and yards, stability calculations, scheme of complement, weights of stores and provisions, an abstract of tenders received for the entire class, and later alterations suggested by officers commanding the vessels circa 1891. Two documents of interest are a resume of Royal Navy gunboats constructed between 1854 and 1887, and a collation of trial reports for various gunboat classes dated 1891. The paperwork commences in March 1885 at the outset of the design process and ends in February 1907, by which point only Rattler was left in service.
