Ship Cover for the Sharpshooter class torpedo gunboats.

Ship Cover for the Sharpshooter class torpedo gunboats HMS Gossamer (1890), HMS Seagull (1889), HMS Sharpshooter (1888), HMS Skipjack (1889), HMS Spanker (1889) and HMS Speedwell (1889). The documentation primarily relates to the maintenance and operation these ships in the second decade of the 20th Century. As such, the papers consist of inclining data and stability calculations, reports of accidents (usually collisions and repairs necessitated), accounts of hull and equipment weights, frequent vessel condition inspection reports, and details of alterations including the installation of wireless telegraphy sets and minesweeping gear. A significant proportion of the documentation relates to the ships of the very similar archar class torpedo gunboats, a number of which were similarly converted for minesweeping duties during the War. One of the documents dated December 1915 comprises a tabular condition report for all these vessels. The earliest papers date from April 1909 and the latest are from April 1917.
