Ships Cover for the Edgar class first class protected cruisers HMS Crescent (1892), HMS Edgar (1890), HMS Endymion (1891), HMS Gibraltar (1892), HMS Grafton (1892), HMS Hawke (1891), HMS Royal Arthur [ex-Centaur] (1891), HMS St George (1892) and HMS Theseus (1892). The documents mainly relate to the preliminary design proposals, statements of weights in comparison with HMS Vulcan (1889) and dimensional data, crew complement, ships equipment and machinery, correspondence and papers relating to tenders from the various contractors, armament arrangement and ammunition allowance, alterations carried our during and after construction, reports of sea trials, coal endurance and fighting efficiency, and stability calculations. The papers commence in December 1887 at the beginning of the design stage and end in April 1902 when all the ships had been in commission for over five years.
