Ships Cover for Edgar class first class protected cruisers.
Ships Cover for the Edgar class first class protected cruisers HMS Crescent (1892), HMS Edgar (1890), HMS Endymion (1891), HMS Gibraltar (1892), HMS Grafton (1892), HMS Hawke (1891), HMS Royal Arthur [ex-Centaur] (1891), HMS St George (1892) and HMS Theseus (1892). The documentation mainly relates to coal capacity and endurance, alterations to machinery and armament, regular condition reports and brief notes on post-refit and new equipment trials, stability calculations, ammunition allowances and schemes of complement. Documents 119B/69 deal briefly with the aftermath of the collision between Hawke and the liner Olympic (1911) in 1913, and some other correspondence concerns the reactivation of members of the class for service with the 10th Cruiser Squadron in the First World War. The documents commence in April 1910 when the class was employed in second-line duties and ends in September 1919 when all save Hawke (sunk in 1914) were being put up for disposal.
