Ships Cover for 26 and 27 knot torpedo boat destroyers (1893-1895).

Ships Cover for the forty two vessels of the 26 and 27 knot torpedo boat destroyers (1893-1895). The documentation in this Cover is dominated by written exchanges between the Admiralty and the various firms that constructed the ships. For the most part, these exchanges relate to structural particulars, costings, specifications, tenders and Admiralty responses to some of the design proposals submitted. Further documents concern vessel dimensions and weights, crew complement, armament and ammunition allowance, reports of steam, turning and equipment trials, stability calculations, reports of vessel performances at sea, lists of defects and some details of alterations and remedial action taken. Two documents of note are the unusually detailed instructions to the Admiralty Overseers (as expected for such a new type of vessel) and brief proposals of the strategic distribtion of the new ships on completion. The earliest papers are dated May 1892 and the latest November 1897.
