Ships Cover for the Phoenix class steel screw sloops HMS Algerine (1895) and HMS Phoenix (1895). The documentation mainly relates to minutes and correspondence concerning the initial design porposals, statements of dimensions and estimates of weights, armament to be supplied and ammunition allowance, schemes of complement, some papers on fittings and equipment, cost estimates, reports of steaming and turning trials, stability calculations, alterations made both during construction and after completion, reports of the ships' performance at sea, and condition reports. The papers commence in December 1892 at the beginning of the design stage and end in December 1918, by which time the sole surviving vessel, Algerine, was based at Esquimalt (she was sold in 1919).
