Ships Cover for the Duncan class first class battleships HMS Albemarle (1901), HMS Cornwallis (1901), HMS Duncan (1901), HMS Exmouth (1901), HMS Montagu (1901) and HMS Russell (1901). The documentation mainly comprises stability calculations, cost estimates, details of ships fittings and equipment [particularly boats and anchors], details of the armament, schemes of complement, statements of dimensions and estimates of weights, a very detailed design statement/justification for the class, coaling arrangements, correspondence between the Admiralty and the contractors, some details of tenders, comparisons with contemporary Russian and British battleships, details of the armour, and reports of steaming, steering and gunnery trials. The papers commence in April 1898 with the authorisation to proceed with the new design and ends in February 1904 when the last of the new ships entered service.
