Ships Cover for Duncan class first class battleships
Ships Cover for the Duncan class first class battleships HMS Albemarle (1901), HMS Cornwallis (1901), HMS Duncan (1901), HMS Exmouth (1901), HMS Montagu (1901) and HMS Russell (1901). The documentation mainly comprises schemes of complement, alterations proposed and approved [some with detailed diagrams attached], some papers relating to the masts, yards and other fittings, some trial reports of new machinery, and regular condition and damage reports. Of interest is a set of papers relating to attempts -ultimately unsuccessful- to salvage Montagu after she ran aground in May 1906. The earliest papers date from February 1903 and the last from September 1916, when the surviving members of the class were serving in escort and bombardment capacities.
