Ships Cover for the Monmouth class first class armoured cruisers HMS Bedford (1901), HMS Berwick (1902), HMS Cornwall (1902), HMS Cumberland (1902), HMS Donegal (1902), HMS Essex (1901), HMS Kent (1901), HMS Lancaster (1902), HMS Monmouth (1901) and HMS Suffolk (1903). The documentation mainly comprises the initial design proposals and particulars [including comparison with vessels entering service in foreign navies], statements of dimensions and estimates of weights, details of ships fittings and equipment, armament and ammunition allowance, stability calculations, correspondence with the contractors, coaling arrangements and cruising endurance, schemes of complement, armour and protection, alterations, and steam trial reports. The earliest papers date from December 1897 at the outset of the design process, and the last from October 1913 with most of the nine surviving vessels still in service on foreign stations.
