Ships Cover for the King Edward VII class first class battleships HMS Africa (1905), HMS Britannia (1904), HMS Commonwealth (1903), HMS Dominion (1903), HMS Hibernia (1905), HMS Hindustan (1903), HMS King Edward VII (1903) and HMS New Zealand [Zealandia from 1911] (1904). The documentation mainly comprises detailed papers relating to the ideal armament arrangement and ammunition allowance for the class, detailed design proposals and final design specifications, statements of dimensions and estimates of weights, detailed comparisons with French, German, Russian and US battleships, details of the armour and protection scheme, stability calculations, notes on alterations made as the design developed, schemes of complement, papers relating to all manner of ships fittings, equipment and machinery, and some correspondence with the contractors over boiler types to be supplied. The earliest papers date from July 1899 at the outset of the design process and the last from September 1905, by which time all of the class had been launched and five newly completed.
