Ships Cover for the King Edward VII class first class battleships HMS Africa (1905), HMS Britannia (1904), HMS Commonwealth (1903), HMS Dominion (1903), HMS Hibernia (1905), HMS Hindustan (1903), HMS King Edward VII (1903) and HMS New Zealand [Zealandia from 1911]. The documentation in this rather slim Cover comprises stability curves, details of alterations and updated schemes of complement. Of particular interest is a compilation of reports relating to the sinking of the King Edward VII by a mine in January 1916, and subsequent steps taken to make the surviving members of the class safer in the event of similar damage. The earliest document dates from October 1904 and the last from April 1918. In spite of its designation as Cover 172A this item is actually 172B.
