Ships Cover for the River class destroyers (1903-1905). The documentation mainly comprises reports of the performance of this class at sea, details of anti-fouling composition, papers on ships fittings and equipment, detailed trial reports covering steam, manoeuvreing, equipment and gun trials, coal/steaming endurance, correspondence and details covering all the major and minor alterations made to the class, reports on the effectiveness of new equipment, cost estimates for alterations, a large number of reports from serving officers concerning defects in their ships as well as remedial action taken, stability calculations, armament details, and tabular dimensional and performance comparisons between the River class and older extant British TBDs and TBs. The earliest papers date from April 1904 and the last from April 1910. Ships Cover 200 continues some of the design discussions initiated in this Cover, but with a view to improving on the River class.
