Ships Cover for the Duke of Edinburgh class first class armoured cruisers HMS Black Prince (1904) and HMS Duke of Edinburgh (1904). The documentation mainly comprises detailed precis and records of the initial design proposals, statements of dimensions and estimates of weights, details of the armament from the earliest suggested allocations to the final designs, cost estimates, details of ships fittings, equipment and machinery, abstracts of tenders and correspondence with contractors, and details of the armour plating and protective arrangement. The earliest papers date from March 1902 at the beginning of the design process, and the last from November 1905, at which point both ships were nearing completion.
