Ships Cover for RFA Reliance [ex-Knight Companion] (purchased 1912)

Ships Cover for the RFA Reliance [ex-Knight Companion] (purchased 1912). Although this document primarily pertains to the latter ship, there is also a great deal of information included for comparative purposes on the contemporary RFAs Assistance (1900) and Cyclops (1905). The documentation mainly comprises very detailed statements of requirements and justifications for the purchase of the ship, details of the alterations and additions carried out to convert her to an RFA, details of equipment and fittings supplied, cost estimates (including salaries for the civilian crew), and vessel condition reports both prior to and following her conversion. The earliest papers date from August 1912 when her purchase was authorised and the last from June 1919 just prior to her disposal.
