Fishing boats and wooden buildings at a small settlement on the Ilha Jararaca near Belem, Brazil. A single masted boat with its gaff and boom sail stowed is on the river bank and a similar boat with its gaff and boom sail lowered is at the water's edge. Rolls of bamboo canes are on the shore and in the boats. A wooden building on stilts with a palm frond roof is in the background. Three men and a girl are standing by one of the boats looking at the camera. The photographer is ashore during a cruise on the Swedish passenger cruise ship Kungsholm (1928). The settlement is shown in negatives numbers P90293, P90300 and P92463 to P92478 inclusive and is variously recorded as Jaracaras and Jararacas.
