Boats and wooden buildings at a small settlement on the Ilha Jararaca near Belem, Brazil. Wooden boats are on the shore under thatched roof shelters and wooden buildings with palm frond roofs are in the background. Two boats afloat next to river bank on the left are carrying cargoes of root wood or firewood. The photographer is ashore during a cruise on the Swedish passenger cruise ship Kungsholm (1928). The settlement is shown in negatives numbers P90293, P90300 and P92463 to P92478 inclusive and is variously recorded as Jaracaras and Jararacas.
