On board a passenger cruise ship in the Holtenau Locks on the Kiel Canal, Germany

On board a passenger cruise ship in the Holtenau Locks on the Kiel Canal, Germany. The ship is almost certainly the Cunard Line's Lancastria (1922) because the LX negative code was allocated to her by Waterline. The photographer is looking across one of the locks showing the bow of a cargo ship with five men on her forecastle near the windlass. Buildings are between the two groups of locks, the one on the left is occupied by Sartori & Berger, the one in the centre has a plaque with a badge on it next to the door and the one on the right is the premises of Zerssen. Other buildings and two ships can be seen in the background.
