On board a passenger cruise ship in the Holtenau Locks on the Kiel Canal, Germany
On board a west-bound passenger cruise ship in the Holtenau Locks on the Kiel Canal, Germany. The photographer is looking aft from the stern of the ship showing the sliding caisson closing behind the ship. A small single masted yacht is under sail just beyond the caisson and Kiel Bay is in the background. The ship is almost certainly the Cunard Line's Lancastria (1922) because the negative series 831 to 844 are all of the Kiel Canal and the only ship identified is the Lancastria.
