Palm Map

Drawing by an anonymous asylum seeker working with the New Art Studio, reflecting on the sense of being trapped inside the asylum system in the UK. The resonance of the drawing with finger prints encourages reflection on identity and bureaucracy in situations of exile. The links with palmistry, with its focus on the lines of the hand and their role in understanding the future, draws attention to huge insecurity and uncertainty in the context of seeking asylum. At the same time, the hand is an assertion of resilient presence.
